Box 511, Lynchburg, Ohio 45142-0511 Issue 11 FIFTY-THIRD YEAR BEGINS From 2005 Archive of Ed- revised 2015 On the third Sunday of November, in the year of 2015, the fifty-third year of GIJAPA begins. If we are alive at the end of this year, if the terrorists don’t blow us up, if the Lord does not return, if the bubonic plague does not wipe us out, if America can survive another year, and if hurricanes, floods and tornadoes don’t drown or blow us away; when the year is ended, half of my life will have been spent broadcasting the gospel of Christ on the airwaves. John F. Kennedy was president when we started and then Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford who said he was a Ford not a Lincoln, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush the first, Bill Clinton and then George Bush the second. At the beginning of the first half of my life, Woodrow Wilson was president, then Warren Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, Franklin Roosevelt who was president for thirteen years, Harry Truman, and Dwight Eisenhower. There were only seven presidents during the first half of my life and ten during the last half. During the first half the tail end of World War One, the roaring twenties and Al Capone, Charles Lindburg who flew across the Atlantic in 1927, the stock market crash of 1929, the Great Depression, John Dillinger, World War Two, Gone With The Wind which I saw four times and never want to see again, the Korean War, the beginning of the interstate, and I think the conquering of polio was in there somewhere. All in all it was a very exciting time. I wish you could have been there. In retrospect I can say I enjoyed every minute of it. In the last half of my life was the assassination of Kennedy, Vietnam War, the landing on the moon, the end of segregation, the Gulf War, something called nine eleven, and the sex change. Women now are called guys along with men. What ever happened to guys and gals? There are no more gals. Actually their gender and physical construction does not permit gals to be called guys. They simply do not qualify. As I look back over both halves, I truly believe the most exciting thing of the last 44 years will have been GIJAPA. Thirty-five years later , September 1997, we started on Shortwave Radio - Bible Voice Europe, reaching all countries throughout Europe including Russia. In November 1997, he began Shortwave Radio Africa reaching over 140 million English-speaking people in three former British Colonies: Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroons. In June 1999 we started broadcasting in to India by the superpower Radio Sri Lanka, the Giant of Asia. This shortwave broadcast reaches India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the local language is English reaching out to over one billion. April 2003 we begin broadcasting into Western Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Bulgaria by means of the powerful 100,000 watt transmitter - Bible Voice Russia. The program is supported financially by less than 500 persons, and 78 congregations. There are three part-time workers that are basically involved with the Prison Ministry! Just wanted you to know that we have been doing this thing for fifty-two years and that the fifty-third year will begin on the third Sunday of this month. Truly God is able to bring things about which we think are impossible. (Revised 2015) How Long Will it Be? Back in 1939, I went to the hospital to see our preacher who was in the hospital as a patient. Now the reason our preacher was in the hospital was because his throat had been cut, almost from ear to ear. Before I continue with this story, I must tell you first how he got his throat cut. He did not get his throat cut by the elders, nor was it the deacons who individually or collectively did him in. Actually, they were well qualified officers of that church. I just wanted to establish the innocence of these brethren of that bygone day, all of whom have gone on to their reward. The reason his throat was cut was because of a doctor. You see, our preacher had an ingrown goiter, and hence the necessity of the operation. So, it was on this occasion that I went to see him. Now it looked like at that time that our world was falling apart. World War II was ready to begin; in fact it did begin about a month later on September the first 1939. I remember the headlines on the newspaper that day: WAR BEGINS IN EUROPE! Now on this visit to see my preacher, I asked him if he knew how long it would be before the Lord would come, because it looked like it would happen at any moment. I did not want the Lord to come back at that time, because I was getting ready to go to Bible College, and I did not want the Lord to return before I had a chance to do something. The preacher said, “He did not know when the Lord would return, and that if anyone said they knew when He would return they would be making a fool of himself.” This was not good enough for me, and I insisted on an answer that would be a little more definitive. I said, “Well how long do you think it will be? I don’t want you to make a fool of yourself, but could you make a guess?” He gave that question some thought and then ventured to say, “Well, I think the way things are going, and he gave himself plenty of leeway, we may have fifteen years yet.” I took that as the gospel truth and rejoiced that I had fifteen years to preach the word. Surely in fifteen years I ought to be able to do something for the Lord in the matter of the salvation of the souls of men. Now that was 1939, and at this writing this is November 2006. Now I realize that most of you who went to school since about 1970 never learned to add, subtract, divide, or multiply, but if you will just take your pocket calculator and punch in 4 x 15 the read out will reveal that fifteen years has passed by four times, and just about half of the fifth fifteen year increment. My preacher was right. He said the Lord would come in 15 years. The only thing is, he did not say which fifteen years. As we approach the year 2007, world conditions look as bleak as 1939, and many are asking me when will the Lord return. Well I have to say: A man makes a fool of himself if he thinks he knows when the trumpet will sound, and the Lord shall descend from heaven with a shout, and the voice of the archangel. However, if you really want to know: considering world conditions, just how long I really think we have left? I have to say, I truly believe the Lord will come within fifteen years, the only thing is, I am not saying which fifteen years it will be. It may be this fifteen years, or the next one after that, or the next one after that, or the next one after that, and after that you don’t need to know because none of you will be here. However a more important question remains: If you are not here, WHERE WILL YOU BE? ? ? EB (That is still good question to ask yourself today - 2015!) A AA G GGR RRE EEA AAT TT M MMI IIR RRA AAC CCL LLE EE A Communion Meditation In John chapter six is the story of the great miracle where Jesus fed the 5,000 with five loaves and two fishes. Jesus saw a great multitude coming unto him and said to Philip, “Whence are we to buy bread that these might eat?” Jesus said this to prove Him for He knew what He would do. Philip looked over the crowd, made a few quick mental calculations, and came up with the two hundred penny worth figure. Jesus was asking about bread and Philip thought about money. Philip thought like modern day American Christians. If the Lord speaks of sending the gospel around the world, our first thought is how much money it will take. Andrew said, “There is a lad here with five barley loaves and two fishes, but what re these among so many?” Jesus said, “Make the men sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place, and the men sat down in numbers about 5,000. Jesus break the loaves, gave thanks, gave to the Apostles, and the Apostles to the multitude, and they were filled, with twelve baskets of broken pieces left over. There is no question in our minds that this was one of the major miracles of Jesus. It is the only miracle that is recorded by all four of the gospel writers, with the exception of the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. The Holy Spirit must have had some special reason for repeating it four times. However as great a miracle as it is, there is another event similar to it; that takes on even greater proportions than feeding 5,000 with five small loaves and two fishes, which took place about the same time of the Passover. About one year later at another Passover the Lord Jesus would institute the Lord’s Supper. He took a small amount of bread, and a cup of the fruit of the vine, and gave to the Apostles. According to Paul He told them as oft as we do this we show forth His death until He comes. Starting on the day of Pentecost there were 3,000 who continued steadfastly in the breaking of bread. In the fourth chapter of Acts the number was increased to 5,000. Then in Acts, the sixth chapter, the number of disciples in Jerusalem alone was multiplied exceedingly. And then the number grew to such an astronomical number as it is recorded in Revelation the seventh chapter when John said, “After these thing I saw, and behold a great multitude, which no man could number, out of every nation and tribes, and peoples and tongues; standing before the throne, and before the Lamb, arrayed in white robes and palms in their hands. Then this multitude which could not be numbered was identified as: These are they who have come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Since we are told in the twentieth chapter of Acts that the disciples assembled every Sunday for the purpose of breaking the bread; what an overwhelming thought it is to been feeding the loaf, and the cup every Sunday to a number that no man can number. So as we come to the table of the Lord today, and eat of the bread, and drink of the cup, let us remember this is a greater event than when the Lord fed 5,000. Ed My Baggage and I One day I went to the airport and stopped on the outside to check my bags. The skycap asked the usual questions. Have these bags been in your possession since you packed them? Let me see your I.D. I showed my drivers license, and he asked if I was the person he listens to on radio. I told him I was. He said he had listened for many years. I had three one dollar bills in my hand to tip him, but the more he bragged about the program the more I thought, “I can’t let this good fellow think I am a tightwad,” so I fished around in my pocket and gave him nine dollars. I walked into the airport free as a bird. No baggage to carry, nothing to lug around with me. It felt good not being loaded down with excess weight. Several hours later I got off the plane and there I found my baggage waiting for me. I still had to carry it in to my destination. There are some Churches that make you feel good. You can worship and not be burdened with all that excess weight. You don’t take any baggage into such services. You feel free as a bird, you are inspired and feel real good about yourself. You are soothed by the message. Something called sin is not mentioned by name. The song “Just As I Am” is given a new twist. Lord take me “Just as I Am,” I will come into your Church and leave all my guilt feelings outside. Don’t tell me anything that makes me feel guilty of anything. I don’t want to hear a message that makes me feel guilty for being shacked up. I’ll leave my baggage outside. The song and scripture both say it like it is. Some glad morning when the sun will shine, I’ll fly away. But rest assured that when you land at the gate of eternity both your preacher and your baggage will be waiting for you. You still have to pick it up to go to your final destination. Here is a very appropriate question, when I stand before Him by and by-Will He be bearing all my sins or shall I? Except ye repent ye shall all likewise perish. Have a good flight. E.B. Have You Found Your Horse? A preacher around the turn of the twentieth century in 1903 included this event in a book called First Principles. There was a man in Missouri who had lost his horse and he wanted to get it back. He advertised for it with the following description. The horse was about seven years old. He had two white hind feet, was a fast trotter, chestnut in color, sixteen hands high, and had the letter C stamped on his jaw. After six months a rancher in Texas contacted him with the good news that he thought he might have his horse. The man from Missouri went to see the horse. The horse had two white hind feet, was chestnut color, a fast trotter, sixteen hands high, appeared to be seven years old, and had the letter C stamped on his jaw. The man from Missouri had found his horse. He asked the rancher where he found him. He had been lost for about six months. He said I don’t know where he came from, he just showed up one day with my horses. Actually it did not make any difference where the horse had been. The fact was the horse was a perfect description of the horse that was lost and so it must be the right one. Then the preacher made the following application of the lost horse story, although I may add to or take away from his words. An application that most Christian preachers today would be either ashamed or embarrassed to use. Where was the Church of Christ two hundred years ago? I don’t know. I have not ready of any such thing in American history before that time. But don’t feel too badly about that because if you go back a few years there was no such thing as a Baptist Church, Methodist Church, Roman Catholic Church, or any other denomination. If there were such things I do not read about any of them in the Bible. So how can we find the Church of the New Testament Days today? Do what the man from Missouri did. Look in the New Testament for the description of the Church established on the day of Pentecost. Did the Church in the New Testament have a Pope? Did any member of the New Testament Church kiss Peter’s big toe? If so, where is it mentioned? Were the preachers of the New Testament called Reverend? If so please give the book, chapter and verse. What method for baptism was used in the New Testament? What conclusion would you reach if you read they went down into the water and he baptized him? What conclusion can be reached when it says they were gathered together on the first day of the week to break bread? Did the Church in the New Testament observe something called Lent? Did the Apostles smear ashes on their faces on Ash Wednesday? If so where is it mentioned? Please give a book, chapter and verse. What Church in the New Testament had a lady preacher besides the Church at Thyatira that the Lord Himself called Jezebel? How many Churches in the New Testament ordained homosexuals as preachers, elders, or deacons? How many Christians and or Church of Christ preachers could say what we have just read as a part of a trial sermon and expect to be hired? Is there a better way to find out what the Church the Lord established was like than to consult the New Testament? Archives of Ed - 1996 L LLe eet ttt tte eer rrs ss Dear GIJAPA, I will no longer be here at this address. I would very much like to continue my studies. I do not know where I will be sent. I have the most of two or three weeks here. I am hoping that you can grade the studies I’m sending back now and hold on to them. Once I get to my new housing, I’ll write to you to inform you of my new address. I want to thank you for the previous studies. It’s been almost a year since I started my studies with you. I’ve grown and see how God has changed my life and how much I have learned. I have a lot more to learn and I am so eager to know more. Thank you for your attention. Le, from Del Valle, TX First I would like sending a special thanks to the Ed Bousman program and Bible studies. I really appreciate you taking the time to mail me each lesson of 30 Bible Studies. I have really grown closer to God through these studies of the Bible. Also through the series of lessons I have been led to a better understanding of God’s word and as a result I am sure of the path I want to take to follower Christ. So one day I will have everlasting life with the Father. The lessons were very powerful and meaningful to me in my everyday living. My whole life has changed for the better. I really see everything much clearer now and I have total confidence with God I will be able to reach my top potential in life upon my release from prison. I also wanted to ask is there’s a way along with my certificate of completion of all 30 lessons of Studies In The Bible you could write me a short letter for parole? (We here at GIJAPA don’t do this.) I want to say thank you for everything you have done and for reading my letter. May you have a blessed day! Roger from TX Dept.of Criminal Justice, Huntsville, TX Hello, I hope this letter finds you doing well. I am writing you this letter to request a KJV Bible. I am locked up here at TCCC in Del Valle, TX and was told you could send me one. God bless you and thank for sending me any and all spiritual guides and instructions for salvation. I am new to the Lord so a real nice Bible would be great. Thank you again! God bless you and all who labor with you! God’s blessings, Ulysses I am requesting one of your large printed Bibles that you send to inmates incarcerated. In 2004 when I was last incarcerated at this same prison, I requested a Bible from you and at that time, I thought that I had it all figured out and had named that Bible after a pistol that I really wanted which is a 45 caliber Gluck 9 mm. I had everything in order. Even God’s will, I only had to do a year on a 6 year sentence. I got out and got my girlfriend pregnant and mar ried her as well. I attended Church upon my release and got into a financial situation and started selling crack cocaine. I started out selling small packages and ended up cooking crack cocaine, selling meth, weed. I couldn’t meet a lot of my family obligations and swayed away from the Church and had major problems with my parole officer. Me and wife separated and I hit rock bottom and got locked up with drugs that was in somebody else's possession. This was one week before my first born son was to be born. On November 6, 2006, I was sentenced to 50 years at a July trial in Arkansas. Since my incarceration, I learned that I left God behind me and basically thought that I do things my way and found out the hard way that without God failure and disappointments are sure to happen. Left up to my own choices I am bound for self-destruction and disappointment and without God in my life all of my choices and ways are off. Pray for me and a spiritual awakening! Thanks Michael, Varner Unit in Grady, Arkansas Hello, my name is Billy. I would like to get a large print Bible. The Bibles in here are too small for me to read and I would like to deepen my relationship with God. I would be very blessed o receive a large print Bible and maybe even a Bible Study guide to have a Bible study with a couple of other guys. Thank you and God bless. Conroe, TX Hi Ed, It’s Jeffery. This is the second letter sent today requesting Bible and Bible Study you offer. Look at what the Lord is doing here in B-2 in Del Valle, TX. Twice a day we meet to offer praise reports, do scripture reading, followed with prayer for the men here! Their families on the outside struggling with doing without the members of their families here awaiting trial. Eight men regularly show up! GOD IS AWESOME! Keep up the great work! Please send Bible and Bible Study to the person on the letter. Pray for him he’s been offered 50 years in prison. God bless, Jeff from Del Vale, TX Non-Profit Org.
